Digging a Pond - Day #2

Aug 2004

I made one call around 7:00A.M. this morning to one neighbor, asking if they needed any fill, or knew anybody who needed some.

By 9:00A.M. the first of 35 loads was on it's way out and I chatted with just about everybody in a mile radius of the farm, as we're generally a social bunch up here, and seemingly everyone had the day off work.

This piece of shit, consumed the better part of my day (when I wasn't visiting with who ever dropped in to watch the progress).

One hose split and let loose, the check valves would get stuck open, requiring that I stop the pump pull the hoses and clear the offending snarf.

All of the hoses have numerous holes that squirt a urine stream sized jet perpetually at the crotch of who ever happens to walk within range.

Eventually, after seemingly 100's (though possibly 10) trips down to clear the screening of the intake I thought to place the intake inside a bucket.

The water shown filled in just since I had dinner...

I imagine that I'd be a dismal failure if I was to run an equipment rental shop, as I'd lose so much business, from refusing to let half working ill kept gear out the door.

Again, this image is taken from atop the dirt pile (that has been moved at least 4 times)...

I don't see much progress from the view in this shot, but we've gained at least 80ft on yesterday.

From this angle, you get a better sense of the days progress.

The depth has had to shallow back to 8ft as a higher layer of the rock shelf is hit.

The next update will be the finished hole... (Due Aug 29th or 30th)
